US Genuine Issue Jungle Hat with Insect Net (Type 1), in new and unissued condition, is the original Vietnam-era issue for U.S. forces. Officially designated as the “Hat, Jungle, with Insect Net”, it was designed for hot, humid tropical environments.
This is the earliest standardized version of the military boonie hat. It predates the camouflaged Type II and Type III models and was widely used throughout the Vietnam War and into the early 1980s. The integrated insect net makes it particularly distinctive from later solid OD boonies.
