USGI Hot Weather Sun Hat Type V (Boonie Hat)
US Genuine Issue Hot Weather Sun Hat (Type IV), new and unissued condition, exclusively in the Digital Tiger Stripe pattern. It was officially used with the Airman Battle Uniform (ABU). It was introduced in the mid-to-late 2000s for U.S. Air Force personnel as part of the ABU uniform system.
Unlike the Army’s M81 Woodland (Type III) or UCP (Type IV) versions, the Type V features a distinctive blue-gray digital tiger stripe camouflage pattern optimized for Air Force use in a variety of environments. It follows the same streamlined, lightweight Hot Weather Sun Hat design, emphasizing ventilation and sun/rain protection.
This is the standard-issue Digital Tiger Stripe Boonie Hat issued to Air Force personnel from approximately 2007 through the early 2010s, before the Air Force began transitioning away from the ABU uniform.

- Foliage Ring / Branch Loops: Heavy-duty nylon webbing band stitched around the crown, designed for attaching natural camouflage (leaves, grass, etc.).
- Adjustable Chin Strap: Nylon cord with a leather or plastic slide lock / keeper for a secure fit in windy conditions.
- Internal Map Pocket: Many military-spec versions include a hidden pocket inside the crown for storing small items (such as maps or documents).
