USGI Hot Weather Sun Hat Type IV (Boonie Hat)
US Genuine Issue Hot Weather Sun Hat (Type IV) in the Universal Camouflage Pattern (UCP), also known as the ACU "Boonie Hat". It was introduced in the mid-2000s alongside the Army Combat Uniform (ACU) to replace the older M81 Woodland pattern.
Unlike the earlier Type III M81 Woodland boonie, the Type IV features the distinctive grayish digital camouflage pattern designed for use in a wide range of environments (though it ultimately proved less effective in many theaters). It maintains the same streamlined, lightweight design with a focus on ventilation and sun/rain protection.
This is the standard-issue UCP boonie hat issued from approximately 2005 through the early 2010s, during the transition period before the Army fully adopted the Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP).

- Brim Width: Standard 2.5-inch reinforced brim (approximately 6.35 cm) providing excellent 360-degree sun and rain protection.
- Fabric: 50/50 Nylon/Cotton (NYCO) ripstop fabric for military issue versions. Some contracts used 100% cotton ripstop.

- Foliage Ring / Branch Loops: Heavy-duty nylon webbing band stitched around the crown, designed for attaching natural camouflage (leaves, grass, etc.).

- Internal Map Pocket: Many military-spec versions include a hidden pocket inside the crown for storing small items (such as maps or documents).
